Artist Bio:

Leonard Kogan was born in the former Soviet bloc, where he moved to Israel and then to the United States. Currently, he lives and works in Baltimore, MD. In Israel, Leonard received his professional art education and evolved as an artist. He participated in solo and group shows in Europe and the United States.

His current work appoints a philosophical and psychic catechism, where human-like representations undergo psychological atomization in search for self-identification and restructure. A compositional structure in his work represents fragmentary set-stages. He attempts to examine the topos of contradictions and irrationality, dehumanization and deformation, assimilation and dissimilation, displacement and migration.

The hybrid, the incomplete and the fragmentary are conceived as underlying principles of Leonard Kogan’s visual representations and are conceptualized via concepts such as the sequence-image, repetition, the rebus, and moments of exuberant melancholy.
