The Artist:
Alexandra Stratan was born and raised in Romania, during the time of communist Romania, and lived on a farm with her grandparents. She moved to Chicago with her parents at age 14, after waiting eight years to be approved by the Communist government to move to the U.S. She decided to study design after spending a few years in the beauty industry, but always had a fascination with photography. While attending design school, she began working on patterns for a vintage-inspired women’s lingerie collection (bullet bras and all that fun vintage stuff), and found it difficult to get a photographer to do some test shots. So she decided buy a camera and do it herself. After doing a few modeling jobs, she worked on her camera and lighting technique, and created a style all her own.
