BEHOLD

by Angela Hibbs

Fabric. Glass. Stainless steel. Wood.

Atoms. Translucence. Impermanence.

Woven. Heated. Mined. Cut.

Collect. Consume. Order.

A wine glass not broken, but removed from its stem

Ice sheets catapult onto a highway from a bus

A semi drifts out of its lane

A hill is available for vehicles whose brakes

A nail dissolves in a glass

Glass decomposes in one to two million years

LIGHT DETECTION

The shine off a sail
unlights the room
neighbours a yellow oval
on an off-yellow boom

refuses to be missed.
White rectangle bisects brown rectangle.
Orange, white, purple and black mist
makes its impression, tangible.

A colon is a left hook and right jab.
A bracket is the West wind.
A period wants no drop more than a dab…
Three pennies for an ellipsis.

The above weather known as nipply,
rectangles repeat without introduction
(perhaps just colloquially)
a line is fine but a wall is obstruction.

FRANCIS BACON’S STUDIO

Though unclothed
this body resembles nothing more than a pile of laundry

HP sauce mixed in
             powdered chicken soup
with a palette knife
             Tastes alarming
-ly like steak.

Sometimes the sick must drink oil
and soy sauce, to keep from fading away to

When too long has passed without sleep
Sleeping pills

Grogginess is better than what it prevents

Flashed a light in his eyes
to make himself produce

RAINING COINS

Smoothly together work people and machines

It’s worth a tour. Stamping makes work for people and machines

Work to make coins represent work

Make work, make mint, make visit, make millions

The cent is the only coin stamped onto pre-made blanks

Witness this process. Witness the work. The witness works.
